Smith Says No

“No,” they say, is a road to decline,
A barricade to dreams, a warning sign,
But within its syllables, let’s explore,
The positive essence it holds in store.

I had a positive conversation on the telephone where he clarified “Let’s be frank, the return trip to Bangkok is impractical, not least because of the increasing COVID restrictions, and I suggest you pursue any options closer to you.”

Rev. Andy Smith – Christchurch, Bangkok

F. David was encouraging “Why not contact the Dean of Thailand, Revd Canon Ching Wah?”  He gave me the email address.

As it turned out, my email was passed to the newly installed priest at Christchurch, Bangkok.  Rev. Andy Smith had not been in the post very long when he got back to me to suggest an excellent reading list.

I had a positive conversation on the telephone where he clarified “Let’s be frank, the return trip to Bangkok is impractical, not least because of the increasing COVID restrictions, and I suggest you pursue any options closer to you.”

“It is an unfortunate reality that Christchurch is not in a position to host or support any ordinands for some time to come,” he said.

Not long after, I was informed that Rev. Andy was no longer the incumbent and that he and his family had returned to the Uk.  This was a great shame because although his news had been bad, his help with the reading list and encouragement to look local had been very helpful.  It was a bit of a missed opportunity to develop a friendship even before it had been given a chance to grow.

I hope one day to reconnect with Rev. Andy.  He seemed like a good guy!
